The United Way of Washington & Greene Counties (“UWWGC”) is proud to announce a pilot program that would allocate mini grants to support emergency veterans’ needs in our United Way service area located within Washington and Greene Counties in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  Eligible nonprofit organizations are welcome to submit applications that address emergency needs of veterans who live within our service area or for a veteran’s program located within our service area consisting of thirty-eight zip codes in Washington County and all the zip codes in Greene County, Pennsylvania)

The timeline for the pilot program is September 1, 2026 – March 31, 2027 (seven-month period)

Nonprofit organizations designated as 501(c)(3) (or veteran organizations that may not be 501(c)(3) but serve veterans as part of their mission) are eligible to submit requests for a mini grant in the amount up to $2,500 for their veterans’ programs or for an eligible individual veteran who demonstrates an emergency need. One approved mini grant per veteran permitted during the length of the pilot program. If a second request is made for the same individual veteran or veterans’ program within the established period, it will be determined if approved to proceed on a case-by-case basis by contacting the UWWGC.  If a request is anticipated to be more than $2,500, also please contact office@unitedwaywgc.org to set up a call with the UWWGC Executive Director.

Nonprofits that are currently receiving funding from UWWGC through the FY26-28 Community Impact Fund for support of their veterans’ programs are not eligible to request funding for such programs but are eligible to apply on behalf of an individual veteran for their emergency needs.

Examples of an emergency related to a nonprofit organization that serves veterans could be unexpected program related expenses such a significant increase in an utility bill, an expense related to a vehicle, or expense related to program equipment.

Examples of an emergency need of a veteran could fall within the category of basic needs of food, clothing, health related, unexpected housing related expenses including utilities late payments, transportation needs, and other types of assistance.

Applications are submitted via the UWWGC Website Page/Emergency Veterans Fund.  Review of a mini grant application will occur, and approval/decline will take place within three weeks of submission.

Payment of all mini grants will be made via ACH to the nonprofit organization and not directly to a veteran.  A follow-up report will be required within two months of receiving the mini grant.
