By expanding its inventory of life-saving devices and investing in targeted software, the program strengthens communication and training with partners like Greene and Washington County Children and Youth Services and Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern PA.
With 28% of Washington County households classified as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) and an additional 10% living below the poverty line, many families face financial hardship that increases the risk of instability and child abuse. In 2024, there were 643 reported cases of child abuse in the county, highlighting the need for early intervention.
The Watchful Shepherd provides discreet, mobile, and wearable safety devices that connect families to 24/7 emergency services, offering immediate assistance. The program manages devices and subscriptions, ensuring they are readily available through partner agencies, while also providing training and ongoing support.
As it expands, The Watchful Shepherd aims to enhance in-person collaboration with agencies, develop high-quality training materials, and invest in software to improve communication. Additionally, the program is dedicated to raising community awareness through outreach initiatives and events, reinforcing its commitment to protecting vulnerable children and families in the community.
